Coconut shell/palm kernel shell raw material is carbonized in Gasifier to obtain charcoal, which can either finished product ready for selling or raw material for production of activated carbon. Gasification takes place at temperature of 300-500 °C for 3-6 h depending on type of raw material. Besides charcoal produced from Gasifier, gaseous fuel is generated and it is subsequently sent to Boiler as co-fuel for making superheated steam for steam activation process. The obtained charcoal is checked by ASTM
proximate analysis (i.e., moisture, ash, volatile matters, and fixed carbon content). Additionally, auto-ignition temperature is sometime analyzed for purpose of safety during shipping.
